Too Big to Fly
Again, Southwest decides at the last minute that someone is too big too fly. And because of this, he missed his uncle’s funeral. Don’t worry, he will get a refund.
A San Jose man tells ABC7 News that he missed his uncle’s funeral in Phoenix because a Southwest Airlines agent told him he was too fat to fly.
Okamoni Fa weighs 400 pounds. He said he was not allowed to fly out of San Jose International on Friday, November 20. The Southwest agent toldm him he was to big to fly and that he should have bought two seats. No extra seats were available so he couldn’t have bought an extra seat on the spot.
A Southwest spokesman said that if a passenger cannot sit without encroaching on another passenger’s space, then that passenger will have to buy a second seat. Southwest says they will refund the cost of the second seat if the flight is not oversold.
Fa insists that he can sit on a flight without getting in anyone’s space.
Southwest promised ABC7 that it would look into Fa’s case and that it would make sure he was given a full refund.
